Welcome to My Polymer Clay Diary

Part I: S'more Polymer Clay Charm Tutorial
This week I created a YouTube video as the instructional tutorial for the free DIY s’more kit I am offering to promote my upcoming lessons kicking off March 10th, hosted on Patreon.
I have to say, the S’more polymer clay miniature food tutorial is lengthy coming in at 50 minutes of airtime; a far cry from my usual goal of 10 minute videos. But, the S’more tutorial is also my favorite. And here’s why. When watching YouTube tutorials about making polymer clay charms, often the author opts for curb appeal and entertainment value over the nuances and techniques used in creating a piece that may be difficult to explain or even difficult to demonstrate to the audience. Honestly, if you’re just looking for entertainment related to DIY polymer clay miniature fake food charms, are you really going to spend an hour of your time watching just one long tutorial? Probably not. But I have found that giving myself the gift of time and permission to take as much time as I needed supported me in creating a tutorial that is clear and concise, will stand the test of time, and was enjoyable to create.

Part II: My Diary Entry
Dear Diary, I reread last weeks’ post and the creative frustration was palpable. Because I have only 10 more days until my Patreon polymer clay live lessons launch, I have been full steam ahead on the project; which is thankfully going smoothly. Also my website crashed on Friday morning, and while on the technical call, which was starting to feel like a plane taking a nosedive, I was able to go back four previous screens and reload the my own website with success. Interesting morning.
In the midst of organizing and planning for my upcoming classes, I had given up about 4 weeks of the usual creative time I allot myself consistently every week. I use this time to create and learn new skills that always create greater for me. This week, I finished my business goals for my Patreon lessons and with whatever free time I could collect throughout the day, I created like no tomorrow. I feel satisfied, relieved and recharged. What did I create?
I created a my first Hawaiian Holiday Bread Roll Necklace and Pendant set which went viral on Instagram. I created my first real life-sized polymer clay chocolate swirl cheese cake using Sculpey Bakeable Polymer Clay, and oh what I mess it was. The ship was sinking on this one, but luckily I turned it around and it looks great. The trauma and drama was all around how lightweight bakeable clay changes its consistency when paint is mixed into it. Uggg. I also finally made spaghetti earrings and a pendant set. What fun. I’ll write more about both of those projects next week.
